Reforms introduced since the killings of Eric Garner, Mike Brown, and Tamir Rice six years ago have failed to substantially reduce racist police violence. Police have killed more people than they did in 2014 every year since. Black people are 2.5 times more likely than Whites to be killed by police and 1.5 times more likely to be unarmed at the time.
Now, in the wake of the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Elijah McCLain, as well as police brutality inflicted upon anti-racist activists nationwide, more and more people are deciding that, to increase public safety and accountability, we must radically shrink the power and scope of the police, or abolish them entirely.
